Volleyball downed by Shorewomen, 3-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Visiting Washington College took the first two sets against Ursinus, then battled back from a deficit to take the third set in a 3-0 win over the Bears on Wednesday night in volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-9, 25-18 and 28-16 in favor of the Shorewomen (17-7, 2-5 Centennial)

For Ursinus, Allison Raff had eight kills, with Karla Thiele getting five. Gina Powers had 19 assists, with Leah Masiello getting 13 digs and Thiele chipping in with ten.

Washington was paced by Kristin Lee with 12 kills, while Jess Daunoras had seven total blocks including six solo.

Ursinus looked to battle back in the third set, taking a 14-8 lead on an attack error by Lee. Washington made a run to get it to 15-12, before Ursinus got a kill from Raff, then another one from Sam Murphy to go up 17-12.

Taylor McCartney's kill would put Ursinus two points away from winning the match at 23-18, before a service and a kill from Daunoras got the Shorewomen back within three at 23-20.

Ursinus had set point after a Washington attack error at 24-21, before Washington got five straight points to get up 25-24.

Murphy's kill tied the score at 25-all, before an attack error gave Washington the lead at 26-25. Raff put through another kill at 26-all, before two attack errors ended the match in favor of Washington.

Prior to the match, Ursinus honored its four seniors: Masiello, Powers, Lindsay Doyle and Joy Oakman.
