Volleyball downed by Swarthmore, 3-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – In their lone match of the week, the Ursinus College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Swarthmore in Centennial Conference action.

Set scores on the night were 28-26, 25-16, 25-15.

For Ursinus (13-10, 1-6 Centennial), the Bears did have 17 kills in the first set, getting eight in the second and seven in the third.

Individually, sophomore middle blocker Sam Murphy (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) had nine kills on 21 total attempts with just one error (.381 hitting percentage). Freshman outside hitter Taylor McCartney (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) also had nine kills, with Karla Thiele going for six.

Senior setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), playing in front of her home town crowd for the final time in her career, had 28 assists.

Senior libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) had 18 digs.

Ursinus will be off the rest of the week, then host Washington next Wednesday on Senior Day.
