Volleyball goes 1-2 during three-match weekend

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus finished up a two-day, three-match weekend on Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to Johns Hopkins in a Centennial matchup.

On Friday night, the Bears went 1-1 at the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann, winning a 3-2 match with Catholic before falling to Emory & Henry by a 3-1 score.

Against Catholic, the Bears won by set scores of 20-25, 25-12, 24-26, 25-21 and 15-11.

Sophomore middle blocker Sam Murphy (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) led the Bears with 14 kills, while freshman outside hitter Allison Raff (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) had 12 and junior outside hitter Karla Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins Senior) added in ten.

Senior setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had a match-high 50 assists, with Raff and Powers each getting four service aces.

Defensively, senior libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) had 20 digs with Thiele getting 14.

Against Emory and Henry, the Bears lost by set scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-23.

Thiele had 15 kills, while Raff added in 13. Powers had 40 assists, with Masiello getting 22 digs. Powers went for 17 digs, with McCartney getting 12.

Against Johns Hopkins, Ursinus fell by set scores of 29-27, 25-19 and 25-9.

Freshman outside hitter Taylor McCartney (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Thiele each had six kills, with Raff getting five. Powers had 19 assists, with Masiello getting 14 digs.

Ursinus heads to Swarthmore on Tuesday.
