Volleyball runs win streak to six

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College volleyball team ran its win streak to six matches, defeating Delaware Valley by a 3-0 score on Thursday night. Set scores were 25-13, 15-18 and 26-24. 


The first set saw Ursinus trail 4-1 early on before rallying to pull away. In the second set, the Bears went on a 7-1 run after trailing 9-5. Winning 15-14, Ursinus (6-2) outscored the Aggies (0-7) 10-4 the rest of the way. 

The final set saw Ursinus rally from down seven at 17-10 to get within two at 17-15, and then tie the score at 22-all.  

With the score tied 24-all, Ursinus got a point on a serving error and then won the match on a kill by junior outside hitter Karla Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins Senior).

Thiele finished with ten kills on 27 total attacks, while freshman outside hitter Taylor McCartney (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had seven. Senior setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had 17 assists followed by ten from sophomore setter Emily van Mulbregt (Wayland, Mass./Wayland).

Thiele and senior libero Leah Masiello (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth's) each had 13 digs, with the Bears teaming up for eight blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Sam Murphy (Holden,Mass./Wachusett Regional) had four block assists on the night.

Ursinus will host Albright at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
