FREDERICK, Md. – The Ursinus College volleyball team swept a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating both Penn State-Mont Alto and Hood by a 3-0 score.

The Bears (4-2) got 16 kills from freshman outside hitter Taylor McCartney (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and 11 from junior outside hitter Karla Thiele (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins Senior) in the opening match, as McCartney had a .419 killing percentage as her 16 kills came on 31 total attacks. Sam Murphy had seven kills.

Senior setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) got 41 assists, with freshman outside hitter Allison Raff (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) taking three.

Defensively, senior libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) had 26 digs with Thiele getting ten.

The Bears won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-13.

Against the host Blazers, the Bears won by scores of 27-15, 25-16 and 25-17.

Thiele led the way in the second match with 15 kills on 31 total attacks (.419 kill percentage), with McCartney getting ten.

Powers had 29 assists, while leading the way defensively with 13 digs.

Ursinus heads to Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday.
