Volleyball tripped up by Gettysburg, 3-1

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus won the first set on Saturday against Gettysburg by a 27-25 score, but, the Bears (3-7, 0-1 Centennial) saw the Bullets (6-4, 1-1 Centennial) win the next three as Gettysburg took a 3-1 decision in volleyball play.

Set scores in the remaining three sets were 25-16, 25-16 and 25-13.

For Ursinus, junior middle blocker Anahi McIntyre (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) had a match-high 13 kills, with senior middle blocker Kristin Hanratty (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) going for 12.

Gina Powers had 25 assists, with sophomore libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) going for 14 digs.

In the first set, Ursinus raced out to a 7-5 lead, before going up 14-8 on a Gettysburg service error. The Bullets had rallied to tie the score at 18-all, before kills by sophomore defensive specialist Joy Oakman (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) and Hanratty along with an ace from Masiello gave Ursinus a 21-18 lead.

Gettysburg came back to take a 24-23 lead and with set point on the line, McIntyre came up with a kill on an assist from Powers to make the score 24-all. McIntyre made another kills with set point on the line to keep the score tied at 25, before back-to-back attack errors gave Ursinus the first set.

In the next three sets, Gettysburg would take early leads and not look back.

Ursinus hosts Swarthmore on Wednesday.
