Volleyball falls at Stevenson Invitational

 

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Ursinus suffered three losses on Saturday at the Stevenson University Mustang Invitational in volleyball action.

Ursinus (3-5) dropped three straight 3-0 matches to Mary Washington, Bridgewater State and Cairn (formerly known as Philadelphia Biblical).

Despite the losses, sophomore libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) was named to the All-Tournament team.

In the first match against Mary Washington, Ursinus lost by scores of 25-12, 26-24 and 25-10. The second set was the best of the three as Ursinus went for 12 kills on 35 attacks with just five errors (.200 hitting percentage).

Leading the way for the Bears was senior middle blocker Kristin Hanratty (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) who had eight kills, with sophomore Lindsay Doyle (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac) getting five.

Sophomore setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had 12 assists, with Masiello taking two. Defensively, Masiello finished with 14 digs.

Against Bridgewater, Ursinus lost by scores of 25-9, 25-17 and 25-15.

Powers and senior outside hitter Erica Dickey (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) had six kills each, with Powers taking eight assists. Masiello had ten digs, with sophomore Joy Oakman (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) grabbing six.

Finally, Ursinus dropped the match to Cairn, 25-13, 25-18 and 25-18.

In the final match, Hanratty had seven kills with Powers taking six. Powers added eight assists, with Masiello getting ten digs.
