Volleyball goes 1-2 at Homecoming Classic at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - The Ursinus Bears  (10-11) won one out of three volleyball matches over the weekend at the Homecoming Classic hosted by Neumann University. 

Nazareth (19-9) swept Ursinus in a three-set match.  Set scores were 25-16, 25-23, and 28-26.

For Ursinus, junior middle blocker Elizabeth Roth (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) had tied both sophomore middle blocked Anahi McIntyre (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and senior outside hitter Kim Goldberg (Sarasota, Fla./Out of Door Academy) with five kills each.  Freshman setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) added in 15 assists, with Roth totaling nine.

Defensively, freshman libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) had 15 digs.

Ursinus won its first match of the day on Sunday against Wilkes (2-21) in three sets.  Set scores were 25-23, 25-19, and 25-22.

For Ursinus, Roth had a team high 12 kills with Goldberg adding eight.  Powers led the team with 29 total assists.

Defensively, Masiello added 19 digs to the teams win.

In the final match of the day Ursinus lost to Neumman University in a four sets.  Set scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-20.

Goldberg led the way for the Bears with 11 kills and McIntyre added 10.  Powers had a team high 21 assists with Roth adding 11. 

Defensively, Masiello led the way with 16 digs.  For her efforts, Roth was named to the all-tournament team.

Ursinus hosts Washington College on Wednesday, October 19.
