Volleyball downed by Gettysburg, 3-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Gettysburg's Virginia Hogan tallied 13 kills as the Bullets (8-3, 1-0 Centennial) swept Ursinus (7-4, 0-1 Centennial) 3-0 in volleyball action on Saturday afternoon.

Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.

For Ursinus, junior middle blocker Kristin Hanratty (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and senior outside hitter Kim Goldberg (Sarasota, Fla/.Out of Door Academy) each had seven kills, with senior setter Elizabeth Roth (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) adding in six.

Freshman setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) had 14 assists, while Roth pitched in ten. Freshman libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) had 18 digs.

The first set saw Ursinus take an early lead at 5-3 on a kill by Hanratty. After Gettysburg took lead, Ursinus would rally from an 11-8 deficit with five straight points, highlighted by two service aces from Hanratty. The Bullets would take the lead for good in the first set at 18-17 on a kill by Kelly Milione.

In the second set,  Ursinus trailed early but tied the score at 8-all on a Gettysburg attack error. The Bullets however would outscore Ursinus 9-2 to pull away. In the final set, Ursinus came back from a six-point deficit early to tie it at 16-all on an ace by Roth.

Ursinus heads to Swarthmore Wednesday.
