Volleyball holds off Delaware Valley, 3-2

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – After taking the first two sets, the Ursinus College volleyball team saw Delaware Valley come back to tie the score at 2-all forcing a fifth and deciding set Tuesday night in volleyball play.

Trailing early, Ursinus (4-1) came back from an early deficit in that fifth set to take a 3-2 decision over the Aggies (3-1). Set scores were 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 23-25 and 15-9.

Down 3-1, Ursinus scored four straight points, as junior middle blocker Kristin Hanratty (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) got an ace during her four serves, while senior setter Elizabeth Roth (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) had a kill via an assist from freshman setter Gina Powers (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven). Delaware Valley was able to get within one the rest of the way at 5-4 and 6-5, but, Ursinus pulled away to an 11-7 lead and never looked back. 

For Ursinus, Roth had an outstanding match as Roth had a team and game-high 13 kills, while senior outside hitter Kim Goldberg (Sarasota, Fla./Out of Door Academy) 11, with sophomore middle blocker Anahi McIntyre (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) adding in ten.

Powers, fresh off a All-Star performance at the Moravian Tournament this weekend, had a team-high 30 assists. 

Freshman libero Leah Masiello (New Castle, Del./St. Elizabeth's) had a match high 41 digs, with Hanratty collecting 13. Hanratty also had five service aces to boot, as she and McIntyre also had a solo block and two assists. 

Delaware Valley was led by sophomore middle hitter Janel Gluch with 12 kills, with sophomore outside hitter Destinee Horning picking up 11.

Ursinus heads to Widener on Thursday.
