ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's track and field team concluded the Centennial Conference outdoor championship in strong fashion, collecting four medals on the way to a fifth-place finish.
The Bears landed in the top five at the outdoor meet for the first time since a fourth-place effort in 2015, landing on 66 team points and missing fourth-place Haverford by just 2.50 points.
Senior Caroline Buckley and the 4x100-meter relay unit each took home a silver medal to lead Ursinus on the final day of the season.
Bidding to become the first Ursinus field athlete to win triple jump gold since 1995, Buckley gave it a good run and was more than happy to settle for silver with a leap of 34-10.25. It was the second career runner-up finish for the senior, who also placed second in the triple jump in 2017.
Sophomore Gianna Speranza, sophomore Rachel Coleman, sophomore Molly Rodebaugh, and freshman Kate Hunt gave Ursinus a silver medal in the 4x100-meter relay for the second consecutive season, crossing the line about a second back of Swarthmore in 50.07 seconds. It was also the second straight silver in the event for Speranza and Coleman, who finished in 50.24 at last year's outdoor championship.
Freshman Rosie Cuomo gave the Bears a massive lift with a stunning performance in the 100-meter hurdles, logging a massive PR of 16.17 seconds to move all the way up from seventh in the prelims to the podium in third place. The rookie edged Dickinson's Alexandra Colby by .14 seconds to claim bronze.
Senior Brittany Gasser grabbed her first career outdoor medal with a third-place run in the 400-meter dash (59.77), landing a full three-quarters of a second clear of the fourth-place finisher.
Gasser, Rachel Coleman, Speranza, and sophomore Michela Coleman capped the meet by placing fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:08.19).
Hunt finished seventh in the 100 (12.88), while Rachel Coleman was eighth in the 200 (27.06).
