Track & Field Competes at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Ursinus College track and field teams took a small contingent with it to Lehigh's John Covert Classic on Saturday and returned with a number of productive performances.

Senior Catherine Buczek took second place in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 1:01.81 to move into third on the CC performance list. Freshman Rachel Coleman placed 15th in 1:03.18.

Junior Mikaela Bordonaro crushed her personal record in the weight throw, uncorking a toss of 41-9.25 to top her former best by nearly four feet and vault into third in the conference. Bordonaro was also the Bears' top performer in the shot put with a 31-0.50.

Junior Caroline Buckley extended her league-leading triple jump mark to 33-9.25, a season high that ranked her in 14th place overall.

The Bears had two place-winners in the 500, with seniors Jenna Kelly (1:24.85) and Katherine Damato (1:25.35) finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.

Sophomore Kira Miller logged a new personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, placing second in her heat with a 9.95 that eclipsed her previous benchmark by two hundredths of a second.

For the men, sophomore Andre Kelly headlined a trio of Ursinus athletes in the 500, placing sixth overall in 1:08.64. Senior Mitchell Kelly (1:13.03) and freshman Ian Steele (1:14.39) also competed in the event.

Senior Jequan Mitchell recorded a new season best with a 24.08 in the 200, where classmate Jamie Casseus was just shy of his season low at 24.78.

Mitchell's 7.42 in the 60-meter dash was just a tenth of a second off his season best, and Casseus narrowly missed his own personal best with a 7.56.

Freshman Mike Knudson, who ranks fourth in the CC in the weight throw, posted a toss of 39-7.25 to lead four Bears in the event. Fellow rookie Griffin McMann added over seven feet to his personal best with a 35-10, and freshman Billy McKernan tacked on more than five-and-a-half feet to his.

McKernan finished sixth with a 32-8.50 in the shot put.

Sophomore Codi Yhap marked a 54.50 in his season debut in the 400.

The track and field teams host the annual Frank Colden Invitational on Saturday, February 3.
