Women's Tennis Rolls Past Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus women's tennis team earned its second Centennial Conference win on Saturday, defeating Gettysburg, 8-1. The Bears got off to a strong start, sweeping doubles before taking five of six singles matches.

Caitlin Vinsonhaler and Claire Burke remained undefeated on the season as the duo cruised to an 8-1 win at number three doubles. Brenna Trkula and Avery Samer finished right behind them with an 8-2 victory.

The Bears completed the sweep in doubles after Maddie Russell and Cara Freedman closed out a tight 8-5 match at the top spot.

Ursinus took the momentum from doubles into its single matches. Trkula started fast in her tilt, taking the opening set 6-0. While the second set was slightly closer, she closed out the straight sets win, 6-0, 6-3.  

Vinsonhuler clinched the match for the Bears with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at number three singles to put Ursinus ahead, 5-0.

At number one singles, Russell played the closest match of the day. After losing the opening set, 5-7, the junior battled back to take the second set, 6-4. In the supertiebreaker, Russell came up just short, falling 10-8.

In the final matches of the day, Burke and Jessica Leach each cruised to 6-0, 6-1 wins at five and six singles, respectively.
