Vinsonhaler Named Player of the Week

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ursinus College's Caitlin Vinsonhaler was named Women's Tennis Player of the Week by the Centennial Conference, the league announced Tuesday.

Vinsonhaler was terrific in her collegiate debut, winning both of her matches to spearhead a momentous 6-3 upset of Franklin & Marshall in Saturday's season opener. The victory was the program's first over the Diplomats since the 2011 campaign.

Vinsonhaler first-year teamed with senior Madisen Harvey to cruise to an 8-1 rout at number three doubles, punctuating a sweep of doubles play against a Diplomats squad that was picked second in the CC preseason poll. The first-year then put the Bears on the precipice of victory by pulling out a 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4) battle at number three singles, which was followed shortly thereafter by Jessica Leach's match-clinching triumph at number five.

Vinsonhaler is the women's tennis team's first conference player of the week since Caitlyn Sorelle received the honor a little more than four years ago. The rookie will look to build upon her impressive opening performance on Saturday, when Ursinus welcomes Washington College to the Bailey Courts.
