Women's Tennis Honored by ITA

ITA Release

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team was named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), while four of its members pulled in Scholar-Athlete honors from the organization.

The Bears were recognized as a team for the first time since 2017. The ITA gives All-Academic Team awards to programs with a GPA of 3.20 or higher.

Recent graduate Caitlyn Sorelle joined rising juniors Maddie Russell and Brenna Trkula and rising sophomore Ava Compagnoni in earning Scholar-Athlete laurels, which require at least a 3.50 GPA.

Sorelle, a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete recipient, had a stellar final campaign. She finished 5-2 at No. 1 singles and paired with Trkula to go 6-1 on the top doubles court. Trkula, a repeat Scholar-Athlete, was 5-2 at third singles.

A first-time honoree, Russell posted a 5-2 record at No. 2 singles and went a perfect 7-0 alongside classmate Cara Freedman at No. 2 doubles.

Compagnoni won her only match as a rookie, pulling out a tiebreaker with fellow first-year Daisy Marrero against DeSales during spring break.
