LAKELAND, Fla. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team passed its first test of the annual spring trip to Florida, improving to 3-0 with a 7-2 defeat of St. Ambrose.

The Bears swept the doubles courts, starting with an 8-2 victory for Cara Freedman and Maddie Russell at No. 2. Caitlyn Sorelle and Brenna Trkula picked up an 8-4 win at No. 1 before Summer Burkholder and Madisen Harvey completed the unbeaten run with an 8-5 triumph at No. 3.

Sorelle rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles for Ursinus, which dominated the back half of the individual proceedings. Freedman pulled out a tough second set to claim a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 4, Jessica Leach notched a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5, and Burkholder cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 rout at No. 6.

Trkula came up just short in a marathon match at No. 3, conceding both a second-set tiebreaker (7-5) and a third-set super tiebreaker (10-7) in a tough defeat.

The Bears look to add two notches to their perfect record on Tuesday, when they meet DeSales for a morning match before facing Northwestern (Minn.) in the night session.
