Women's Tennis Sweeps Past Arcadia

Women's Tennis Sweeps Past Arcadia

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Caitlyn Sorelle reached a milestone and the Ursinus College women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a 9-0 non-conference victory over Arcadia.

Sorelle teamed with Brenna Trkula for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles to notch her 50th career win. She is the ninth player in program history to hit that number.

While their top tandem worked its way through a hard-fought match, the Bears' other two pairings were dominant. The teams of Cara Freedman and Maddie Russell at two and Summer Burkholder and Madisen Harvey at number three each took their matches 8-0 to give Ursinus a 2-0 lead.

Russell (No. 2), Jessica Leach (No. 5), and Burkholder (No. 6) cruised to impressive 6-0, 6-1 straight-set victories in singles while Freedman dispatched her opponent at number four by a 6-3, 6-0 count.

At number three, Trkula played the closest match of the afternoon. The sophomore won the first set convincingly, 6-1, before losing a close second set in a tiebreaker, 8-6. Trkula remained mentally tough though, bouncing back to take the deciding super tiebreaker, 10-8, completing the sweep.

The women's tennis team won't play again until it heads to Florida in two weeks to play five matches during its annual spring break trip. The Bears' next home match will be March 21 when they host Drew.
