Women's Tennis Cruises Past Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team enjoyed a brief respite from the grind of Centennial Conference play on Thursday, showing no signs of wear and tear in dominating Cabrini, 9-0, on the road less than 24 hours removed from a grueling thriller with Washington College.

Ursinus was ruthlessly effective in winning its second consecutive non-league match and moving back to the .500 mark at 6-6 for the season.

The Bears lost a total of five games across the nine matches – two in doubles and just three in six singles tilts.

Freshmen Maddie Russell and Cara Freedman (second doubles) and junior Summer Burkholder and sophomore Maddie Sorebo (third doubles) each posted an 8-0 shutout. Junior Caitlyn Sorelle and freshman Brenna Trkula, meanwhile, were only slight less dominant in an 8-2 victory on the first court.

Four of the Bears' six singles players notched a 6-0, 6-0 blanking. Sorelle and Russell did so at number one and number two, respectively, and they were joined by sophomore Madisen Harvey at five and Sorebo at six.

Trkula conceded a single game in a 6-0, 6-1 rout at third singles, while Burkholder tallied a 6-1, 6-1 decision at number four.

Harvey has won three straight singles matches for Ursinus, while Freedman and Russell (four in a row) and Burkholder and Sorebo (three) are also on a roll in doubles.

The Bears get back to conference action with a trip to nationally ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
