TOWSON, Md. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team bounced back from a two-match skid with an impressive result at Goucher, running away with a 7-2 victory in non-conference action on Sunday.
Sophomore Madisen Harvey and freshman Cara Freedman were double winners for the Bears (5-5), who played well in a 6-3 loss to Franklin & Marshall earlier in the week and carried that momentum over.
Harvey teamed with freshman Jessica Leach for a straightforward 8-2 triumph at number three doubles, which was followed by an 8-5 win from Freedman and rookie classmate Maddie Russell at number two.
Junior Caitlyn Sorelle and freshman Brenna Trkula were just a point or two away from completing a doubles sweep, but came up just short in a 9-8 (7-5) tiebreaker on the top court.
The Bears' top duo recovered quickly to produce the first two singles wins of the day. Sorelle picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number one, while Trkula was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at number three.
Junior Summer Burkholder was next off the court with a triumph in tow after the most competitive match of the afternoon, pulling out a 2-6, 6-1, 10-5 marathon at fourth singles.
Harvey (6-1, 6-1) and Freedman (6-0, 6-0) were dominant at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, to close out the win.
Ursinus gets back to Centennial Conference play with a home match against Washington College on Wednesday.
