BeVard, Nguyen Win on Senior Day

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Aileen BeVard and Ashley Nguyen notched impressive singles wins on Senior Day for the Ursinus College women's tennis team in a 7-2 Centennial Conference loss to Dickinson.

Ursinus fell to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Red Devils improved to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the CC.

BeVard bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the first set against Lauren Altschuler on the number one court, rolling to a 6-2 victory in the second and pulling out a 10-8 thriller in the super breaker. It was the 47th singles win of BeVard's career, moving her to within two of the all-time program record.

Nguyen edged out a tight first set and controlled the match from there en route to a 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Hanna Butler at number two. The senior became the fifth player in school history to reach 30 career singles wins.

Senior Ariel Danziger lost 6-3, 6-3 to Alexandra Epstein at number three, but the Red Devils won comfortable on the back three courts.

Dickinson swept doubles play, but not without a big fight from the Bears. BeVard and Nguyen hung with Altschuler and Epstein stroke for stroke at number one, but the Red Devil duo used a break midway through the set to survive an 8-6 decision.

Danziger and freshman Madisen Harvey built a 7-4 lead against Butler and Olivia Shea on the second court, but dropped five games in a row in a heartbreaking 9-7 final.

The Bears host Haverford on Tuesday afternoon. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
