Bullets Eke Past Women's Tennis

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Despite taking a 2-1 lead after doubles competition, the Ursinus College women's tennis team suffered a 5-4 Centennial Conference setback at Gettysburg on Saturday, the host Bullets staying in the playoff hunt by taking four of the first five singles courts.

Sophomore Ariel Danziger was a double winner for Ursinus (8-6, 1-5), which led 2-1 after she and senior captain BreAnna Bashaw pulled out an 8-6 victory at second doubles. Combined with an 8-4 win by junior Christine Palazzolo and senior Stephanie-Jane Seabra, the Bears took a one-court advantage into individual action.

Sophomore Aileen Bevard stretched the margin to 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 rout at third singles, but Gettysburg (6-8, 4-2) prevailed on the next four courts to clinch victory, rendering Danziger's 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-2 win at fourth singles moot.

Palazzolo and Seabra stretched their doubles winning streak to six, while Bashaw and Danziger have triumphed in their last five appearances.

The Bears return to the courts on Wednesday, April 20 at Muhlenberg.
