Women's Tennis Rolls to Victory at Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Three days removed from one of the biggest wins in program history, the Ursinus College women's tennis team consolidated their momentum with an 8-1 defeat of host Alvernia on Friday afternoon.

Ursinus (8-3), ranked 12th in the Atlantic South region, won its seventh straight match against non-conference foes. It was the second straight win for the Bears, who knocked off Haverford for the first time since 1983 on Tuesday.

Junior Christine Palazzolo and senior Stephanie-Jane Seabra started the match with a bang, sweeping third doubles 8-0 to improve to 12-2 on the season (8-2 in dual matches). Senior BreAnna Bashaw and sophomore Ariel Danziger were 8-3 winners in the second flight, and sophomores Ashley Nguyen and Aileen Bevard pulled out an 8-6 decision on the top court to secure the sweep.

Bevard moved to 10-1 in dual matches with a dominating 6-1, 6-0 rout at third singles before Bashaw officially clinched the match on a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at second singles. Danziger matched that score at fourth singles.

With the match in hand, Palazzolo and Seabra played pro sets; the former blanked her opponent at fifth singles, and the latter took home an 8-2 result at number six. Seabra stretched her individual winning streak to seven with her latest conquest.

The Bears test their mettle against nine-time defending champion Johns Hopkins on the Floy Lewis Bakes Center courts on Saturday. The Blue Jays, ranked 12th in the nation, have won their last 94 CC matches.
