Women's Tennis defeats Alvernia, 7-2

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team evened its home record to .500 this season, with a 7-2 victory over Alvernia on Thursday afternoon.

The Bears (5-6) swept all three doubles matches to start the day as junior Heather McMasters (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney) and senior Jessica Tyrrell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) defeated Julie Seidel and Alyssa Boyd at number one flight, 8-4.

Freshman BreAnna Bashaw (Vernon, Vt./Northfield-Mount Hermon) and freshman Stephanie-Jane Seabra (York, Pa./York Suburban) won at number two flight over Jennifer Petrilla and Jennifer Innamonto, 8-1.

Finally, at number three flight, the team of sophomore Audrey Whitebloom (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) and freshman Laura Nebel (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) defeated Maygen Henzie and Kellie O'Donnell, 8-4.

In singles play, Tyrrell defeated Petrilla at number two flight, 6-2, 6-2. At number four flight, Bashaw moved to a team-best 9-2 overall with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Innamonto.

Seabra upped her singles mark to 7-4 with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Rachele Smith at number five flight.

Finally, senior Caroline Lippe (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) defeated Lillian Hussar, 6-0, 6-1, at number six flight.

Ursinus hosts Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
