IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's tennis team started the 2012 season off on the right foot as the Bears (1-0) blanked Immaculata (2-8) 9-0 in women's tennis play on Wednesday.
Senior Jessica Tyrell (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) defeated Emily Degnan at number one singles, 6-3, 6-1, followed by freshman BreAnna Bashaw (Vernon, Vt./Northfield-Mount Hermon School) at number two flight with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Paige Sparks.
At number three flight, freshman Stephanie-Jane Seabra (York, Pa./York Suburban) defeated Theresa Martini, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Laura Nebel (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) defeated Kara Trowbridge at number four flight, 6-4, 6-0, followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win by sophomore Renee Tornea (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) at number five flight over Allyson Minton.
At number six flight, sophomore Sydney Dodson-Nease (East Windsor, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) defeated Olivia Hoffman, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, junior Heather McMasters (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Seabra defeated Martini and Degnan, 8-3, at number one flight.
At number two flight, Tyrell and Bashaw defeated Trowbridge and Sparks, 8-1. Freshman Avery Carter (Moorestown, N.J./Merion Mercy Academy) and Tornea defeated Minton and Julie Einwechter, 8-1.
