Lear Tops School Record in 100 breast, Carkhuff Competes in 200 Free at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Ursinus senior Sophie Lear turned in an impressive showing in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims on Friday morning at the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.

 

 

 For the second time this week, Lear topped her own school record by posting a time of 1:04.45 in the 100 breaststroke and finished 18th overall. Her 18th place finish was a 16-spot improvement from her pre-championship seed of 34th and her time shattered her old record of 1:05.03 set back in 2019. Lear finished 30th for the event back in the 2019 NCAA Championships on a time of 1:06.14.

 

 

On the men's side, senior Ryan Carkhuff competed in his second of three races, the 200 freestyle, on Thursday morning. Carkhuff posted a time of 1:42.52 to finish 50th overall as he improved two spots from his pre-championship seeding.

 

 

Both swimmers return to for their final races tomorrow, March 19th as they both will be competing in the 100 freestyle prelims at 10:00 a.m.
