Women's Swimming Tops Dickinson

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team (2-0, 1-0) won its second straight meet to open the season with a 112-86 win over Dickinson. The Bears won seven events on the day.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Katherine Champagne, Haley Sturla, Katie Sanfield, and Sophie Lear got the Bears off to a quick start, taking first place of the opening race with a time of 4:04.41.

After taking second and third in the 100-yard freestyle, Katie Schultz edged Dickinson's Caroline Christianson by 1.27 seconds to place first. Lear, Champagne, and Schultz followed suit, placing first in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, and 200-yard butterfly to make it four straight events for the Bears. Schultz led the pack, winning the 200-yard butterfly by over seven seconds for her second first-place finish of the day.

Dickinson won the next three events before Ursinus got back on track to win the final two. Abigail Ferguson headed the Bears' strong finish won the 200-yard breaststroke, besting Dickinson's Madeline Vlattas by .18 seconds.

The relay team of Lear, Sanfield, Liv Rachael, and Champagne closed things out for the Bears, taking the 400-yard freestyle relay by over eight seconds.
