Women's Swimming Takes First Nine Races in Win Over Cabrini

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus College women's swimming team began its 2019-20 campaign on Saturday afternoon with a 107-89 victory over Cabrini. The Bears took the first nine of the 11 events on the day. 

The Bears started the day off strong, taking first, second, and third in the 200-yard medley relay. Leading the way was the all-freshman team of Abigail Ferguson, Katie Sanfield, Jessica Gutekunst, and Katherine Champagne with a time of 1:55.61.

Charlotte Driver put together a dominant performance in the 1000-yard freestyle. She finished 1:23 ahead of the pack with a time of 11:29.90 to take first.

In the 200-yard freestyle, it was Champagne who finished well ahead of the pack. Her 2:00.51 performance was almost 10-seconds faster than Ro Murphy who took second.

Margrethe Leis edged out a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing just .32 seconds ahead of second place.

Also finishing first was sophomore Sophie Lear in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Bears took the top-two places in the two following events. Katelyn Moore and Ferguson took first and second in the 100-yard butterfly while Katie Schultz and Jessica Gutekunst placed first and second in the 100-yard freestyle.

Liv Rachael put together a first-place performance in the 100-yard backstroke and Katie Sanfield won the 500-yard freestyle by 27 seconds with a time of 5:30.82 before the teams moved to exhibition scoring.

The Bears will host Dickinson next week.
