Women's Swimming Caps Unbeaten Dual Season

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team wrapped up another undefeated dual-meet season with a 112-75 Centennial Conference victory at Bryn Mawr on Saturday.

The 21st-ranked Bears (9-0, 7-0) have gone unbeaten in five of the last six seasons, their only loss in that span coming at the hands of Division I Villanova last January. Ursinus has prevailed in a remarkable 52 consecutive conference duals.

Freshman Sophie Lear was a double individual winner and was part of a first-place relay for Ursinus, which received contributions up and down the roster.

Freshman Liv Rachael, junior Haley Sturla, Lear, and senior Clara Baker opened the proceedings with an easy win in the 400 medley relay, posting a mark of 4:16.83. Sophomore Gabriela Howell followed with a first-place swim in the 400 IM (5:12.34).

Lear then spearheaded a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200 free, cruising in at 1:59.95 to outpace fellow rookie Katie Schultz (2:01.74) and senior Gabriela Timuscl (2:05.59) in the Bears' caravan.

Rachael was runner-up in the 50 free, finishing just .02 seconds behind the Owls' Lillian Oyen-Ustad in a thrilling race.

Baker dominated in the 200 IM, where her mark of 2:17.41 was well ahead of Sturla (2:23.09) and first-year Stephanie Chell (2:25.00) in another 1-2-3 sweep.

Senior Caroline Powell was a winner with a 2:22.26 in the 200 fly.

Schultz took home the spoils in the 200 back with a 2:17.63, a little more than a second faster than junior Margrethe Leis' 2:18.87.

Senior Katherine Madden headed a tight 1-2 finish in the 500 free with a 5:36.56 as sophomore Katelyn Moore (5:37.98) came in second.

With the meet under exhibition scoring, Lear posted the top time in the 200 breast with a 2:32.06. Powell, Rachael, Lyons, and Timuscuk did the same with a 1:46.06 in the 200 free relay, the last race of the afternoon.
