Lyons Sets Pool Record in Rout

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team put on a phenomental showing in the 162-92 rout of Washington College.

The Bears (8-0, 6-0) extended its consecutive dual victory streak against Division III opponents to 67 straight wins. In the process, the Bears were victorious in 11 of the 14 events.

Highlighting the meet was senior Peyten Lyons. Lyons set a new Casey Swim Center record in the women's 200 backstroke event with a time of 2:11.11. She won by more than six and half seconds over fellow Bears sophomore Katherine Kurzinsky and senior Katherine Madden.

Lyons and freshman Sophie Lear each picked up two individual victories and a relay win on the day. Lyons also won the 50 freestyle individual event with a fast time of 25.41. Lear touched the wall first in the 500 freestyle (5:18.77). Her time was the only mark under a minute. Ursinus earned another 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke as Lear won (1:09.77), Sturla (1:10.02) followed and Rachael finished third (1:15.12).

The four Bears of Kurzinsky, Lyons, Lear and Haley Sturla opened the meet winners of the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:09.06. The second Ursinus relay team of senior Caroline Powell, sophomore Katelyn Moore, freshmen Katie Schultz and Liv Rachael were runners' up in the relay with a time of 4:15.44.

Kurzinksy, sophomore Allison Thomas and Schultz earned the 1-2-3 in the 200 freestyle. Kurzinsky's win was turned in at a time of 2:00.85.

Senior Clara Baker picked up the 200 butterfly event win with a mark of 2:11.37. Senior Gabriella Timuscuk finished second (2:16.05). Baker also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.99.

In the 100 backstroke, Powell edged out teammate Madden by about a tick to earn first place with times of 1:03.04 and 1:04.25 for Madden.

Rachael won the 100 freestyle (56.40).

Gabriella Timuscuk won the 200 breaststroke (2:36.29).

The Bears travel to the Main Line to take on Bryn Mawr next Saturday at 1 p.m.
