SHENANDOAH, Texas – The Ursinus College women's swimming team's unforgettable season came to a close Saturday morning, as sophomore Peyten Lyons and junior Meggie Leitz competed in the 200-yard backstroke prelims at the NCAA Championships.
Lyons finished 30th in a time of 2:05.77, while Leitz was 34th at 2:07.06.
Ursinus accrued 28 points to place 28th as a team, its highest national standing ever.
The Bears' 2016-17 campaign included a fourth straight Centennial Conference crown to go with a fourth consecutive undefeated dual-meet mark. Ursinus produced All-Americans in Leitz and sophomore Clara Baker, giving the program multiple All-Americans in the same season for the first time in school history.
Ursinus established six new team records, including three individual benchmarks for Lyons, in addition to breaking four Centennial Conference records. One of those was courtesy of Leitz, who became the first swimmer in Ursinus history to win a national medal after a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly on Friday night.
