COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Peyten Lyons of the Ursinus College women's swimming team was chosen as the Centennial Conference Swimmer of the Week, it was announced by the league office. The award is the second for Lyons in her career.
Lyons played a starring role as the Bears extended their conference winning streak to 29 with a 175.5-86.5 rout of visiting Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. She had a hand in four victories, including three individual triumphs that helped Ursinus take first place in all but one event.
Lyons touched the wall first in the 100 back (1:00.75), the 200 back (2:12.60), and the 200 IM (2:16.92). She outdistanced the Diplomats' runner-up finisher by 1.32 seconds in the 100 back and 2.25 seconds in the 200 back, and edged junior teammate Olivia Tierney by just over a second in the 200 IM. Lyons also swam the first leg of the winning 200 medley relay.
Lyons boasts the CC's top time in both the 100 back (58.02) and 200 IM (2:11.24) and ranks third in the 200 back (2:09.89). She is currently 38th in Division III in the 100 back.
The women's swimming team continues conference play at Washington College on Saturday, January 28.
