Record Breaking 1st Day for WSWIM

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – After day one of the 2015 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships, the Ursinus College women's swimming team finds themselves in first place. The Bears have a team score of 234 points, with F&M in second with 193.

Several school, conference and team records fell in the Friday night's finals for the Bears, starting with the opening relay. The team of junior Corinne Capodanno, freshman Sydney Gundersen, junior Micaela Lyons and sophomore Alli Hemp won the 200 free relay with a conference record time of 1:36.89. In the B final, the team of senior Amanda Lucock, senior Rebecca Schroll, sophomore Marisa Ferrari and senior Chelsea Kozior won the B final with a time of 1:39.79.

In the 500 free, Kozior set a school record by finishing third with a time of 5:05.30, with Lucock setting a personal record with a time of 5:13.50.

In the 200 IM, sophomore Katie Pielmeier set a school and conference record with a time of 2:07.70, as she won the event. She also earned a B cut for the national meet with her time. Freshman Olivia Tierney was third with a personal best of 2:09.73.

The Bears earned a lot of points in the 50 free, headlined by Capodanno in third with a time of 24.26, with Lyons in fourth at 24.36 and Gundersen in fifth with a time of 24.39. Hemp was seventh with a time of 24.81.

In the B final, Schroll was second with a time of 24.98.

In the final scoring event of the evening, the team of Capodanno, Tierney, freshman Katherine Porter and Gundersen was second with a team record of 3:55.63. In the B final, the team of freshman Meggie Leitz, Pielmeier, Hemp and Lyons were second with a time of 4:02.01.

In Friday's prelims, Kozior had broken a school record in the 500 at 5:07.09, before breaking the record again in the evening finals.

In the 200 IM, Pielmeier was third in the prelims with a time of 2:09.19, which had set a school record.

In the 50 free, Gundersen broke the school record with a time of 24.05, a record that was set back in 1977. Capodanno had a personal best at 24.14, with Schroll getting a personal best of 25.03.
