Women's Swimming beats West Chester; Swarthmore

It was a busy weekend of swimming for the Ursinus College men's and women's swimming team. In addition to their Saturday night Centennial meet with Swarthmore, the Bears also traveled to West Chester for a two-session meet with the Golden Rams.

Against West Chester, the women won the two-day event with a score of 177-128, while later on Saturday night, the women wom 123.5 to 81.5, over Swarthmore.

Starting with the Golden Ram Invitational, the women started Friday night with a win in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.82 by the team of sophomore Alli Hemp, freshman Olivia Tierney, freshman Katherine Porter and junior Corinne Capodanno.

In the 200 free, senior Chelsea Kozior was second with a time of 1:58.45 while Capodanno was third at 1:58.54.

Tierney won the 400 IM at 4:39.98, while sophomore Katie Pielmeier was third at 4:50.04.

Freshman Sydney Gunderson was first in the 100 fly at 58.6, with Porter second at 58.56 and Hemp third at 1:00.20.

Freshman Rachel Weil was second in the 100 back at 1:05.85, while Kozior was second in the 500 free at 5:16.18.

Tierney was first in the 100 breast at 1:07.10 with Pielmeier third at 1:08.79.

The team of Gunderson, Kozior, sophomore Marisa Ferrari and Capodanno was first in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:58.67.

Ursinus won the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:00.54 with the team of Capodanno, Tierney, Porter and Gunderson winning the event.

Tierney captured the 200 IM at 2:14.40, with Hemp finishing second in the 50 free at 24.64.

Pielmeier won the 200 fly at 2:13.89 with Porter in third at 2:16.34. Gunderson won the 100 free at 53.77, with Capodanno in second at 53.96.

In the 200 back, Weil was second at 2:19.38, with freshman Maggie Leitz in third at 2:19.70.

Tierney won the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.52 with Pielmeier in third at 2:34.63.

Finally, the Bears won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:37.83 as the team of Kozior, Hemp, Capodanno and Gunderson won the event.

Later Saturday night, the Bears started the Swarthmore meet by winning the 200 medley relay as the team of Hemp, Tierney, Capodanno and Porter won the event at 1:51.51.

Kozior won the 1000 free at 11:49.43, with senior Amanda Lucock second in the event at 11:27.33.

Gunderson was second in the 200 free at 1:59.86.

Capodanno won the 50 free at 25.14, with Hemp second at 25.32.

Pielmeier won the 200 IM at 2:14.08, with Tierney second at 2:15.81.

Porter was second in the 100 fly at 59.84 with Leitz in third at 1:00.76.

Gunderson was second in the 100 free at 54.77, with Hemp taking second in the 100 back at 1:03.72.

Kozior picked up her second win of the night by taking the 500 free at 5:35.81.

In the 100 breast, Tierney won the event at 1:10.24, with Pielmeier in third at 1:12.41.



Finally, the team of Capodanno, Kozior, Lucock and Gunderson won the 200 free relay at 1:42.72, with the team of freshman Reney Hess, sophomore Allison Emick, Weil and senior Rebecca Schroll was second at 1:46.43.
