COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's swimming team is in first place after the first day of the 2013 Centennial Conference championships hosted by F&M with a total team score of 424 points.

The Bears opened the night session by going second in the A final in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of junior Malena Lair Ferrari (Bethesda, Md./The German School), senior Sarah Kolosky (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes, freshman Corinne Capodanno (Claymont, Del./Padua Academy) and freshman Micaela Lyons (Plainfield, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge) crossed the line at 1:49.21.  In the B final, the team of sophomore Anne Ludwig (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional), junior Eva Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), sophomore Rebecca Schroll (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and sophomore Amanda Lucock (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) were tenth at 1:54.71.

In the other relay on the night, the Bears won the 800 free relay with a Centennial Championship and conference record of 7:47.09. The team of Lair Ferrari, Capodanno, sophomore Chelsea Kozior (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) and junior Bryn O'Neill (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Germantown Academy) won the event at 7:47.09. The Bears also captured the B final with a time of 8:03.97 as the team of freshman Kyleigh Hamilton (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), junior Molly Serfass (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock), Schroll and Lucock took first at 8:03.97.

In the individual events, Capodanno won the 200 free at 1:53.87 which was an NCAA provisional mark. Kozior finished eighth in the A final at 1:58.40. Serfass was 12th, finishing the B final at 1:59.36, while Lucock had a 2:00.17 in the B final.  Capodanno had finished first in the prelims earlier in the day at 1:55.69, while Kozior was fifth at 1:57.33.

In the 100 back, Lair Ferrari finished second at 58.70, with Lyons ninth in the event, winning the B finals at 1:02.01. Ludwig was 11th overall, third in the B final at 1:02.58.

In the 400 IM, Hamilton finished fourth at 4:44.05. O'Neill took 12th at 4:52.76 and Russell was 13th at 4:55.03.

In the 100 fly, Schroll was fourth at 1:00.40. She swam at 1:00.74 to qualify third earlier in the morning.

In the 100 breast, Kolosky was sixth at 1:09.03. In the B final, Russell was 16th at 1:14.08.

The final day of competition begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at F&M.
