Women's Soccer Falls to Haverford

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team scored its first goal in seven games, but regionally ranked Haverford put a half-dozen in the back of the net on Tuesday evening as the Bears fell, 6-1, to the Fords.

The Bears (3-5-2, 0-5) contained the Fords attack early on, but coming out of the defensive zone, Haverford broke away with two attackers and found the back of the net for the early goal.

The Ursinus offense had been unable to find the back of the net in its previous six games. That changed on Tuesday as Taylor Beaumont headed a throw-in from Gracia DiBianco towards the middle of the box. Emma Russell met it perfectly and sent a right-footed effort past the Fords goalie, where a defender then deflected it in off the keeper's leg. Russell's first career goal, interestingly, came in the 29th minute - the same as her jersey number. It was just the sixth goal allowed all season by Haverford, which had posted a streak of seven consecutive shutouts during its nine-match unbeaten run.

The Fords (9-1-1, 3-0-1), ranked 9th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, re-took the lead on a penalty kick and then added a third goal in the half, finding the upper right corner on a free-kick.

Haverford found the back of the net three more times in the second half, capped off by a PK in the 85th minute. Raya Mount nearly opened her collegiate account in the 80th minute, but her free kick from just outside the box on the left side rang the crossbar.
