Women's Soccer Shut Out by Arcadia

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's soccer team found itself behind after less than a minute and never recovered Wednesday, suffering a 5-0 setback at the hands of No. 20 Arcadia on a rain-soaked Patterson Field.

The Knights (2-1) scored all five of their goals in the first half against a Bears squad seeking its first victory over a nationally ranked opponent in school history.

Senior Danielle Kuller led the way with two shots for Ursinus (0-2-1). Freshman Julia Ewing had a shot hit the crossbar, and fellow rookie Sarah Embley played nearly 50 minutes between the pipes in her collegiate debut.

Arcadia wasted no time jumping out to a lead, as Jess Kelly finished off Stephanie Maggio's cross with only 54 seconds having elapsed. Maggio assisted on the second goal as well, when Amanda McHugh scored on a deflected corner kick.

McHugh made it 3-0 with a breakaway chip shot in the 29th minute, and the Knights tacked on two more before intermission.

Arcadia outshot the Bears 14-6 and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Senior Marisa Kalkstein made two saves before giving way to Embley late in the first half.

Ursinus returns to the pitch on Saturday, when it welcomes No. 12 TCNJ to Patterson Field.
