Shining Seniors

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. –  On senior night, the Ursinus Bears (6-7-1, 3-4-1 CC) defeated the Washington College Shorewomen (2-10-1, 0-6-1 CC) by a score of 4-2 in Centennial Conference women's soccer play.

The Shorewomen took an early lead on a goal from Gabby Devaud as she got a cross from Heather Smith to the right side of the field.  

The Bears stood strong throughout and poured on four goals. The first goal came from Monica Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) as she scored a header off a corner kick in the 26th minute. Freshman forward Alexis Haug (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. West) scored on a goal in the 40th minute to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.

Junior forward Leah Shaw (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) scored on a 38 yard blast one minute later to give the Bears a 3-1 lead.

Freshman forward Ama Achiaw (Damascus, Md,/Westover School) each scored a goal in the 60th minute for a 4-1 lead. Washington got a goal from Marisa Atkins in the 71st minute to make the final margin, 4-2.

All 11 of the Bears' seniors participated in the match and senior forward Alex Shivers (Pine Beach, N.J./Toms River South) closed out the final five minutes of the game as the goalkeeper, recording one save. Sophomore Natasha Tonia (Franklinville, N.J./Saint Joseph High School) got the win, going 77 minutes, while making one save.

Ursinus travels to Dickinson on Saturday.
