Women's Soccer gets key Centennial win with 1-0 blanking of Swarthmore

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Needing every possible victory to keep alive for the Centennial Conference playoffs, the Ursinus College women's soccer got a 1-0 victory over Swarthmore on Wednesday afternoon at Wilkes Field.

The lone goal came with just 3:37 left in the first half as junior defender Monica Oliveto (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) blasted a shot off of a free kick following a foul from close to 45 yards out which found its way past Garnet junior goalkeeper Marie Mutryn.

In the second half, Ursinus (8-5, 5-3 Centennial) held off a strong Garnet (7-5-2, 5-2 Centennial) charge which saw Swarthmore 16 shots. For Ursinus, freshman goalkeeper Kara DiJoseph (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) made 14 saves, with nine of them coming in the second half.

The Bears host Immaculata on Saturday, with conference matchups with Muhlenberg and Johns Hopkins to follow the following week. The Bears now have 15 points (three for each win) and are temporary tied for the top spot with four other teams heading into play tonight.
