HOBOKEN, N.J. - A goal with 14:19 remaining in the contest
proved to be the deciding factor as New York University (3-2)
defeated Ursinus (1-2) 3-2 Saturday afternoon in the second game of
the Stevens Engineering Cup at Stevens.
The Bears will face Stevens (0-4) tomorrow at noon in the
consolation game. The Ducks were defeated by Allegheny, 2-0.
Katie Gaston scored the game-winning goal for the Violets on a
cross over Ursinus freshman goalkeeper Justin Harvey's
(Accident, Md./Northern Garrett Co.) head.
The Bears allowed a goal at 18:27 when the Bears attempt to clear a
cross went into the goal for an own goal. The Violets went up 2-0
at 48:06 when Erica Jones scored a goal unassisted.
Senior midfielder Megan Ascanio (Reading,
Pa./Exeter) scored her first goal of the season at 58:58,
shooting a ball from 25-yards out to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Sophomore midfielder Diana Wijtyk (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal
O'Hara) scored her goal of the season on a header to tie
the score at 2-all with 16:59 left to go.
Ursinus, who did not have a shot on goal in the first half, was
outshot 13-9.
Harvey made six saves in goal for the Bears.
