COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Ursinus College senior midfielder
Megan Ascanio (Reading, Pa./Exeter) had three
goals, all in the second half, as the Bears (7-6-1, 3-2-1
Centennial) defeated Washington (5-6-1, 1-4 Centennial) 4-0
Wednesday afternoon at Wilkes Field.
Ascanio scored in the 53rd, 57th and
70th minute for the Bears, who are unbeaten in their
last four matches.
After a scoreless first half, the Bears got on the board 51 second
into the second half as sophomore defender Monica Oliveto
(Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) scored on a header.
Sophomore midfielder Jess Porcelan (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Cumberland Valley) had the assist.
Ascanio first goal at 53:54 was on a header following a pass from
Oliveto for a 2-0 lead. Her second goal of the game came at 57:08
on an assist from sophomore midfielder Brittany Williams
(Medford, N.J./Shawnee), who stole a clearing attempt,
giving Ursinus a three-goal lead.
The final goal from Ascanio came at 70:16 off of a corner kick.
Freshman goalkeeper Justine Harvey (Accident, Md./Northern
Garrett Co.) had just one save as the Bears outshot the
Shorewomen 30-3. Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Ripple had nine saves
for Washington.
