Three Wrestlers Place at Futures Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College wrestling team produced three place-winners at the Northeast/Mideast Futures Tournament held Sunday at Muhlenberg.

Kyle Seibert (133) and Malcolm Hunt (197) each notched a third-place finish, while Romeo Rodriguez (125) took fourth.

Seibert opened with a 9-1 victory over Gettysburg's Cooper Leszczuk before dropping his quarterfinal bout. He then proceeded to run off four consecutive victories in the consolation rounds, pinning Hunter's Samuel Michnik and Muhlenberg's Jeorcy Pena around a 15-2 major decision over York's Brandon Murray. Seibert avenged his loss at the hands of NYU's Dyaln Kull in the quarters with a hard-fought 4-2 decision in the third-place bout.

Hunt was one of two Bears to reach the semifinals of his bracket, and he did so in typical fashion with back-to-back pins of Alfred's Harry Nice and Washington and Lee's Rob Rosen. He was subsequently pinned by NYU's Izzy Fox in the semifinals, but quickly picked up two more falls – over Penn College's Jalen Edwards and Rosen once more – to secure third place.

Hunt has shown a remarkable propensity for pins this season, with all but one of his 14 bout victories coming by fall. With four more on Sunday, he passed Rodriguez for the team lead.

Rodriguez did not record a pin, but he did advance to the 125-pound semifinals with a 13-7 win over Hunter's Paul Wehr before surrendering a close 8-4 battle to eventual champion Nick Denora of TCNJ. Rodriguez lost a 3-1 decision to Stevens' Arjun Khatri in the third-place match.

Alex Koenig won two consolation matches at 174, including one by fall.

The wrestling team heads to Ithaca for the Mideast Regional championship on Saturday.
