Wrestling Goes 3-0 in CC Meet at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Ursinus College wrestling team returned to Centennial Conference action with a bang, sweeping its three matches at this afternoon's meet hosted by Muhlenberg. With victories over McDaniel (29-9), Merchant Marine (28-16), and Washington & Lee (40-13), the Bears remained unbeaten in league play and extended their dual-meet winning streak to 12.

Sophomore Christopher Tan kicked off the afternoon with a flourish, pinning McDaniel's Mike O'Boyle to stake Ursinus (12-3, 4-0) to a quick 6-0 head start.

Senior Keven Hoogheem followed with a 6-4 victory over Ryan O'Boyle at 133, an impressive result against a grappler who came in ranked No. 6 in his weight class in the NWCA's Division III rankings.

After senior Christian Hoogheem wound up on the short end of a 7-5 decision on a takedown with three seconds remaining in the extra session, junior Derek Arnold registered a technical fall against Trey Mitchell at 149.

Junior Alexander Kramer then pinned Erik Meyer in 6:46 at 157. Freshman Robert Endy used a takedown with seven seconds left in bout to score a 4-2 victory over Luke Yox at 165, and junior Corey Markovitch notched a 5-2 verdict against Ronnie Wuest at 174.

Freshman Michael Newman earned a 13-7 decision opposite Jake Pooton at 197 before McDaniel captured the heavyweight bout via decision.

The Bears won the first five bouts against Merchant Marine. Tan scored a technical fall against Tyler Craig at 125, and Keven Hoogheem registered a 10-1 rout of William Hardin at 133. Christian Hoogheem followed with a 10-3 decision versus Trent Dolby.

Arnold pinned Chad Puglio in 3:37 at 149, and Kramer blanked Travis Ahrens, 12-0, at 157.

Endy was defeated at 165, but Markovitch notched a 5-0 decision over Paul Cavanagh at 174. Newman won, 9-3, at 197 to close the Bears' scoring.

Tan was the only Ursinus wrestler to win his bout against Washington and Lee, which forfeited six times. He defeated Ethan Hartman, 12-3, at 125 to complete an unblemished afternoon.

With three more wins under his belt, Ursinus head coach Bill Racich upped his career total to 511, putting him one away from matching Drexel's Jack Childs for sixth on the NCAA's all-time list. Racich needs four more to tie Wilkes' John Reese for fifth.
