Wrestling Goes Unbeaten at North/South Duals

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – For the third straight year, the Ursinus College wrestling team swept through its slate unscathed at the annual North/South Duals, cruising to four dual-match victories in the round-robin event.

The Bears began their day with a 48-5 rout of Hunter. Keven Hoogheem scored a 7-4 decision opposite Jaydon Rice at 133, and Christian Hoogheem followed with a tech fall against David Newpan. Derek Arnold pinned William Heine at 157 for the first of his four falls on the afternoon, and Nate Marsh registered a pin of his own against Barry Hart at 165. Corey Markovitch (174) and Nicholas Suk (184) recorded technical falls, and three forfeits added to the Bears' total.

Next came a 39-6 victory over Western New England. Christopher Tan started with a bang, pinning Tim McClinden at 125 to set Ursinus on the winning path. Keven Hoogheem followed with a major decision against Austin Sisco at 133, and Christian Hoogheem earned a 4-2 decision over Lamont Wallace at 141. Alex Kramer scored a tech fall against Anthony Monteiro at 149 before Arnold pinned Yuri Gulak at 157. After a narrow 8-7 defeat at 165, the Bears responded with a fall by Markovitch, who pinned Patrick Canavan at 174. Suk got a 6-4 decision against Andrew Cole at 184, and Zeb Pfeiffer closed the match with a pin of Oumar Keita at 285.

Ursinus followed with a 42-3 whitewashing of SUNY-Oneonta. Tan pinned Dominic DeGraba and Keven Hoogheem did the same opposite Anthony Messina before Christian Hoogheem and Kramer came up with 3-2 and 7-0 decisions versus Richard Dennison and Mat Marino, respectively. Arnold continued his pin streak against Thomas Marrone at 157, and Jarrett DiGiantomasso got one of his own against Austin Scheer at 165. After Markovitch was defeated by decision, Suk scored a decision against Vincent Provenzano at 184 and Michael Newman came up with a pin of Anthony Marino at 197. Pfeiffer finished the matchup with a 2-1 decision over Adam Groesbeck.

Tan jumpstarted the Bears' 32-10 defeat of Rhode Island College with a tech fall against Saylee Phongsamphanh. Keven Hoogheem completed a 3-0 decision against Stephen Masi, and Kramer defeated Jonathan Costa, 4-2, at 149. Arnold's fourth and final pin of the afternoon came against Jake Dorman, and DiGiantomasso added his second fall, this time versus Vincent Drago at 165. Markovitch and Suk fell by decision at 174 and 184, respectively, before Ursinus polished off its unbeaten performance with a forfeit and a 7-5 decision from Pfeiffer against John Georges at 285.
