Last Man Standing

HERSHEY, Pa. – Sophomore 149 pounder Derek Arnold (Centreville, Va./Westfield) remains the final Ursinus wrestler alive at the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Elizabethtown College at Giant Center after Day One.

Arnold, who advanced to the semifinals and earned All-American status, won twice on Friday afternoon to move into the semifinals.

The three other wrestlers, senior 157 pounder Richard Jasinski (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), senior 184 pounder Daniel Manganaro (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and sophomore 285 pounder Matan Peleg (Vadnais Heights, Minn./Mounds View) all saw their seasons come to an end in the wrestlebacks Friday night.

Arnold, seeded second in his bracket, opened his day with a 10-6 win over Daniel Del Gallo of Southern Maine, then scored a 10-5 win over Brad Mayville of RIT. He will face third-seed Vincent Fava of Delaware Valley on Saturday morning for the right to advance to the title bout.

Jasinski started his day with a 4-0 win over Ben Cousins of Concordia-Moorhead, before falling to third-seed Jorge Lopez of Williams College via pin in 49 seconds. In the wrestle backs, he lost to fourth-seeded Jon Garrison of Mount Union by a 9-3 decision.

Manganaro scored an early upset of fifth-seeded Jayden DeVibiss of Luther 6-5, before falling to Richard Dowdley of Heidelberg 6-2.

In the wrestlebacks, he lost to third-seed Tyler Beckwith of SUNY-Cortland in overtime 3-1.

Peleg, dropped his opening match to James Bethel of Oneonta by pin in 40 seconds, before getting a forfeit win in the wrestlebacks. In his second bout, he lost to Trevor Maresh of Alma College 11-3.
