Wrestling second at Centennial Conference Championships

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Ursinus College wrestling team finished second on Saturday at the 2015 Centennial Conference Championships hosted by McDaniel College. The Bears finished with 91.5 points, behind Stevens Tech with 102.5 points.

The Bears had two top finishers as Christian Hoogheem won the 141 pound bracket, with Derek Arnold winning the 149 pound title. Ursinus also had several runners up, as Christopher Donaldson (125), Keven Hoogheem (133), Richard Jasinski (157), Daniel Manganaro (184) and Matan Peleg (285) all finished second.

Hans Seri picked up a third place finish at 165 pounds. Manganaro was named the Chris Clifford Award winner, given to the senior who has accumulated the most points in the tournament during his four years.

Christian Hoogheem won three matches to win the title, defeating Jake Bracken of Gettysburg by pin in 1:47 in the quarterfinals, then dropped top-seed Alvontae Drummond of McDaniel, 9-2. In the finals, he beat Issac Hammonds of Merchant Marine 6-2.

Arnold scored a technical fall over Chayott Chengsupanimit of Muhlenberg 17-0, then beat Darryl Albonico of New York University 4-0 in the semifinals. In the title bout, he beat Zach Wilheim of Stevens 9-1.

Donaldson defeated Nathan Franz of McDaniel 10-2 in the quarters, then beat Rob Murray of Stevens 5-4 to advance to the finals, falling to Paul Bewak of Johns Hopkins 8-0.

Keven Hoogheem defeated Matt Laux of Gettysburg by pin in 3:59, then beat Austin Day of NYU 10-7, before falling to Ryan O'Boyle of McDaniel, 5-3.

Jasinski defeated Brandon Carcuffe of Gettysburg by pin in 4:16, then beat Christian Salera of Johns Hopkins by major decision 9-1 before falling to Michael Polizzi of Stevens Tech in the final minutes by a 4-3 score.

Manganaro pinned Zach Goldrosen of Muhlenberg at 2:16, then earned a 10-4 decision over Nicholas Cross of McDaniel. In the title bout, he lost in overtime to Pat Rooney of Merchant Marine, 3-1.

Peleg, pinned Rob Donavan of McDaniel in 5:44, then beat Leonard Smith of Muhlenberg, 3-2 to advance to the finals. In the final, he was edged by Chris Florek of Stevens, 2-1.

Seri dropped his opening match to Matt Eulau of NYU, 12-7, then won two matches in the wrestle backs starting with an overtime win over Welles Sakmar of Johns Hopkins, 7-5, then beat Eulau in the third place bout, 5-4.
