Wrestling wins three at home to move to 4-0 in CC

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – For the nationally-ranked Ursinus College wrestling team, the Bears (ranked 21sts in one poll, 23rd in another) started a long weekend of wrestling with three wins on Saturday in a Centennial quad at home.

The Bears (9-0, 4-0 Centennial) defeated Merchant Marine 32-14, Washington & Lee 37-13 and McDaniel 39-9. The Bears, due to bad weather last weekend, will wrestle Stevens and New York University tomorrow.

As for Saturday's action, the Bears, in their lone home duals matches this season, took care of business early in each match. Against Merchant Marine, Austin Petril won his match at 125 pounds over Michael Mui by a 5-1 score, with Keven Hoogheem winning his match at 133 by injury default in five minutes to give the Bears a 9-0 lead.

At 149, Derek Arnold defeated Nathan Twito by an 11-0 major decision, with Richard Jasinski winning at 157 over Nicolas Watson by pin in 1:20.

Gnoleba Seri defeated Matt Hiltz at 174 17-6 for a  23-9 lead, followed by Daniel Manganaro winning at 184 over Patrick Rooney 3-2. Finally, Zachary Trauger won by forfeit at heavyweight.

Against W&L, Ursinus won the first two bouts by forfeit for a 12-0 edge. At 141, Christian Hoogheem defeated Alex Pollera 9-4, with Arnold winning his match at 149 over Zachary Papin by pin at 1:55.

Two more forfeits gave the Bears a 33-0 lead, with Cody Richmond winning his match at 174 over Sal Diaz by a 13-2 score.

Against McDaniel, Christopher Donaldson defeated Nathan Frantz at 125 by pin in 3:57. Christian Hoogheem won his bout at 141 over Anthony Savage by pin at 6:34, with Arnold then beating Benjamin Mitchell at 149 by pin at :29. Jasinski picked up a win at 157 by a 6-1 decisiojn over Erik Meyers, followed by Seri winning over Logan Yox at 165 by a 6-5 decision.

Richmond won his bout at 174 over Jake Pooton, 9-2, followed by wins by Manganaro and Paul Aaroe at 197.
