Wrestling opens CC slate with 37-10 win over Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – While its Centennial opener was delayed by snow this weekend, the Ursinus College wrestling team opened its Centennial dual schedule on Wednesday night with a  37-10 win over Muhlenberg at Memorial Hall.

The Bears (1-0 CC, 6-0 overall), ranked as high as 21 in national polls, won the first eight bouts to take a 37-0 lead on the Mules (2-1, 2-2).

The night started with freshman 125-pounder Christopher Tan (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) defeating Jaryd Flank 6-3, followed by junior 133 pounder Keven Hoogheem (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) scoring a technical fall on Pat Fruehling in 7:00 by a 15-0 score.

At 141, junior Christian Hoogheem (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) defeated Ben Peck by fall in 2:21, with sophomore Derek Arnold (Centrevilla, Va../Westfield) defeating Che Chengsupanimit at 149 by tech fall in 3:12.

At 157, sophomore Jason Cohen (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) defeated Will Lamb 13-5, with junior Gnoleba Seri (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) defeating Jim Colley 12-4 at 165.

Freshman Cody Richmond (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) won his bout at 174 over Jake Goren 11-0, with senior Daniel Manganaro (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) beating Zach Goldrosen at 184 by pin in 6:25.

Ian Gimbar of Muhlenberg defeated freshman Paul Aaroe (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) at 197 by a 13-3 score, before Lenny Smith defeated junior Nick Pustizzi (Pittsgrove, N.J./Arthur P. Shalick) at 285 by injury default in 1:20.

Ursinus will host Washington & Lee, Merchant Marine and McDaniel for a quad match on Saturday, then head to Stevens to face the Ducks and New York University on Sunday.
