Wrestling wins Will Abele Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Hosting its final tournament before heading into the Centennial Dual Meet schedule, the Ursinus College wrestling team won the Will Abele Invitational with a team score of 157 points.

Ursinus, ranked 21st in Division III, got a first-place finish from Hans Seri at 165 pounds and Daniel Manganaro at 184 pounds, while Chris Tan (125), Christian Hoogheem (133), Derek Arnold (149), Ryan Garey (165) and Cody Richmond (174) all finished second.

Christopher Donaldson (125), Keven Hoogheem (133) and Corey Markovitch (165) all finished third.

Getting a bye into the quarterfinals, Seri defeated Kali Robinson of Amherst by a major decision, 18-5, then beat Corey Markovitch in the semfinals 14-4. In the finals, he defeated Garey 9-5.

For Manganaro, he won two bouts, beating Victor Zabalu of Rhode Island College by pin in 1:00, then defated Deon Edmonds of SUNY-Sullivan in the title bout, 5-1.



Ursinus heads to New York City next weekend to take on NYU and Stevens, in their first Centennial dual of the season.
