Wrestling perfect at North/South Duals

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College wrestling team started off 2015 by going a perfect 4-0 at the North/South Duals on Saturday afternoon.

In the opening bout, the Bears defeated King's (Pa.) 48-0, then defeated Elizabethtown by a 46-4 score.

In round 3, the Bears defeated WPI 33-12 and closed the day with a 23-15 win over Oneonta.

In the opener, Ursinus won every bout to complete the shutout. At 125 pounds, Chris Tan defeated Jake Daniel in a technical fall, going up 20-2, 6:10 into the match. Keven Hoogheem defeated Matthew Sparks at 133 by pin at 5:00, followed by an Alex Kramer pin at 141 in 1:01 over Kevin Kelly.

At 149, Derek Arnold, who is the reigning Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week, defeated Benjamin Siegel by pin in 4:18. Richard Jasinski defeated Howard Kilpatrick at 157 by a 10-2 major decision.

At 165, Ryan Garey defeated Angelo Lussi by pin at 3:35, followed by a Cody Richmond win at 174 over Nathaniel Seals by pin at 5:00.

Daniel Manganaro won his match over Zachary Smith by a 5-3 decision at 184 pounds, followed by Paul Aaroe winning his match at 197 by a 7-0 decision. Finally, Nick Pustizzi won his match at 285 over Brad Lucas, 5-2.

Against Elizabethtown, Austin Petril won his match at 125 over Phil Torresani by a 12-3 major decision, with Christian Hoogheem winning at 133 over Bryan Pflantz via a pin at 2:31.

At 141, Kramer defeated Chad Lammer by technical fall in 6:49 with a 22-5 score. Arnold was victorious at 149 over Michael Lammer by pin in 3:25, followed by a Jasinski pin at 157 over Jordan Moser in 4:43.

Garey won his match at 165 over Rafi Sayada in 3:23, followed by a pin from Manganaro at 184 in 2:59 over Luke Fernandez.

Aaroe (197) and Pustizzi (285) closed with wins for Ursinus.

Against WPI, Ursinus trailed after the first match, but, won the five to take control of the match. Keven Hoogheem won his bout at 133 over Stephen Jendritz by a 12-4 major decision, followed by a Kramer win over Jack Nigro 11-0. Arnold won his match at 149 over Tyler Tilbe 9-0, then Jasinski won his bout at 157 via a pin at 3:55 over Torin Zonfrelli. At 165, Hans Seri won his match over Andrew Tanner by a 9-4 decision.

At 184, Manganaro won over Lucas Muntz by a pin in 5:35, with Nick Pustizzi winning over Logan Mendelson at 285 by a pin in :47.

In the final match against Oneonta, Tan won his opening bout at 125 over Dominic DeGraba by an 11-4 decision, followed by a win from Christian Hoogheem over Anthony Messina by a 3-1 count at 133. Kramer won his bout at 141 over Matt Marino 6-0, followed by wins from Arnold, Jasinski and Garey at 165.

Manganaro won his bout at 184 over Vincent Provenzano 8-3 to give Ursinus the win.

Ursinus hosts the Will Abele Invitational on Saturday in its final tournament of the season before heading into dual meet action.
