GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus started its Centennial Conference dual meet schedule with a perfect 2-0 mark on Saturday at a tri-meet with Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins.
Ursinus (6-0, 2-0 Centennial) defeated Gettysburg 28-13 in the first dual, then staged an epic rally in the second dual over Johns Hopkins winning 18-15. Ursinus had trailed 15-6 going into the final three bouts, then got two decisions and a pin to take the win.
In the Gettysburg dual, Ursinus went up 19-3 and never looked back. Freshman Christopher Donaldson (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) started the dual with a 12-8 win over Abe Evans at 125, then sophomore Elisha Gaylor (West Reading, Pa./Wyomissing) scored a tech fall over Tony Stanell 17-0 in 1:48 at 141.
After a forfeit win by senior Connor McCormick (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) at 149, freshman Richard Jasinski (Sellersville, Pa./Penn Ridge) tech falled Joe Fiore, 15-0 in three minutes. The Bears closed with wins by freshman Daniel Manganaro (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) at 184 and a pin from senior Connor McNamara (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) at 197.
Against Johns Hopkins, Ursinus dropped the first four bouts before Jasinski defeated Christian Salera at 157, 4-1, then Andrew Corbett won at 165 4-3 over Jody Gowen.
Junior Mike Kevlin (Manalapan, N.J./St. John Vianney) won his bout at 184 with a 4-2 win over Ben Finelli, then McNamara scored a 1:30 pin over Reid Mosquera at 197 to tie the dual at 15-all. Junior William Cornely (Cinnaminson, N.J./Camden Catholic) won his bout at 285 8-4 to give the Bears the win.
Ursinus will host Muhlenberg, Stevens and Merchant Marine next Saturday.
